Democrats and the MSM writ have been begging for our President to invoke the Defense Production Act to force companies to make equipment for the fight against the Coronavirus. There was no need to do so until yesterday. Most companies were already doing so on their own.

However, GM now states an inability to meet their prior commitments for the manufacture of ventilators:

Statement from the President Regarding the Defense Production Act:

Today, I signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use any and all authority available under the Defense Production Act to require General Motors to accept, perform, and prioritize Federal contracts for ventilators.

Our negotiations with GM regarding its ability to supply ventilators have been productive, but our fight against the virus is too urgent to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course. GM was wasting time. Today’s action will help ensure the quick production of ventilators that will save American lives.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin called-in to Maria Bartiromo yesterday to discuss some of the details within the CARES Act, including when and how funds will be distributed.

The Treasury is using the architecture of the FDIC to be the point of contact for businesses who need short-term bridge funds to help carry them. Payments to workers should arrive in two to three weeks.

Keep in mind that the FDIC, already in a relationship with the bank, back-stops the funding while treasury underwrites the lending (a loan without payback).

Yesterday our President signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) in the Oval Office.

The Republican Party held the line against the radical Democrats when it came to the final text in the CARES Act.

From the article linked above:

Senate Democrats and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi successfully blocked swift passage of a coronavirus rescue package bill, but they did not get much from Republicans in return.

In the days following the negotiations, Republicans repeatedly swatted down additions to the bill proposed by Schumer, Pelosi, and Senate Democrats, despite their best efforts to deliver for select special interests.

[…] Here are the top six items that Senate Republicans kept out of the bill, despite political pressure from the Democrats:

  1. Money for Planned Parenthood: Senate Democrats wanted to bail out the abortion industry by allowing rescue funds for Planned Parenthood, one of their biggest non-profit allies. But Senate Republicans included language in the bill that ensured Planned Parenthood and other non-profits were not eligible. Democrats fought hard to remove the language but were met with a hard no. The bill also included language from the Hyde Amendment, ensuring that taxpayer funds would not directly pay for abortions.
  2. Green New Deal: Senate Democrats felt that the emergency spending bill was an opportunity to slip in tax breaks to benefit wind and solar energy. Senate Republicans refused, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hoisted their efforts to shoehorn green agenda interests as proof that Democrats were not serious about helping the country, as they voted to block the legislation.
  3. No Strings Funding for States: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to make sure that the billions of dollars sent to states could be used to fill holes in their budgets, especially in blue states that were already in debt. Senate Republicans, however, made sure that the emergency funding granted to states be used for coronavirus-related expenses. The rule vexed New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and other governors who wanted billions more funding with no strings attached.
  4. Federal Mandates for Early and Mail VotingCongressional Democrats believed they could use the coronavirus crisis to create new federal mandates to override state election laws, forcing every state to develop early voting and elections through mail. Funding was ultimately sent to state election officials, but only for ways to protect voters from coronavirus.
  5. Postal Service Bailout: Democrats believed that the coronavirus crisis could be used to rescue the postal service, which continues to suffer massive deficits. Democrats wanted $20 billion in funding with no strings attached, but Senate Republicans replaced it with a loan that required them to spend it on the effects of the coronavirus.
  6. DHS Funding Restrictions: The bill includes transfer authorities that allows $289 million to be transferred to the Department of Homeland Security, but Democrats wanted some strings attached to the funding regarding ICE and immigration enforcement. The effort failed.

If you thought the Governor of Nevada was nuts, he has been overtaken by th3 MORONIC Governor of Michigan.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan has threatened to turn the eye of the state upon any doctor or pharmacist who would attempt to prescribe chloroquine to treat their patients suffering from Coronavirus.

The agency’s March 24 letter warns physicians and pharmacists of professional consequences for the prescribing of hydroxychloroquine (and chloroquine). The letter also includes threats of “administrative action” against the licenses of doctors that prescribe hydroxychloroquine.

This is the drug that the POS is trying to stop.

Our President decided to slap the POS around:

Our President and the Coronavirus Task Force held a press briefing yesterday with the latest updates and information.

Our President has appointed White House Manufacturing Advisor Peter Navarro (aka The Assassin) to lead all U.S. coordination of the Defense Production Act. CoC President Tom Donohue and President Xi will not be sleeping well this weekend!

From the article linked above:

President Trump announced Friday he is appointing his trade adviser Peter Navarro to serve as his national Defense Production Act policy coordinator after using the act to force General Motors to begin making ventilators to treat coronavirus patients.

“He’s a tremendous guy and he will do a fantastic job,” the president said during a press briefing with his coronavirus taskforce at the White House. He said Navarro will serve as the national Defense Production Act coordinator for the federal government.

Keep in mind that the Assassin has been a long-term China hawk warning about the risk of U.S. multinationals doing critical supply-chain manufacturing overseas.

Our President’s approval rating continues to rise with each passing day.

Meanwhile SleepyCreepy Joe still doesn’t have a clue!

American innovation is glorious to watch in action.

Abbott Laboratories won U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its molecular test for the Coronavirus strain COVID-19, which the company says can deliver “positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes.”

The FDA’s “emergency use authorization” awarded to Abbott’s ID NOW COVID-19 test is the latest in a growing number of agency approvals for more rapid molecular “point-of-care” diagnostic tests that can be used in temporary screening locations, doctor’s office labs and nursing homes to detect the Coronavirus strain COVID-19 within a half hour.

“With rapid testing on ID NOW, healthcare providers can perform molecular point-of-care testing outside the traditional four walls of a hospital in outbreak hotspots,” Abbott president and chief operating officer Robert Ford said.
